This beautiful bath has some impressive tile work, including the glass tiles behind the mirrors and an onyx shower - wow!
My goal with images like this is to be as true to the natural lighting as possible. I use my high-power studio strobes and my portable flash units to fill in shadows or highlight details. The goal is to balance them with the existing light without looking like someone's been there with alot of lighting equipment - never an easy task in small spaces like this bath!
About
My mantra is "Don't take pictures, make photographs." When I work at making a photograph, the photographer fades and the subjects can speak in their own voice. What results is hopefully more than just a picture of something.
I have always admired the work of abstract expressionist painters like Clyfford Still and Mark Rothko. Their work documents the energy of the artist and communicates with color and form. I also admire the magnificently vibrant color, the subtle transitions and the rich variations possible with pastels as an artistic medium.
I was always fascinated with the complex machinery of my grandfather's cameras and the mystery of the photographic process. Magazines such as Life and Vogue became my first look at the revolutionary influence of photographic masters like Irving Penn, Richard Avedon and Gordon Parks.
At an early age, my paper route was a vehicle to earn money for the first camera I could call my very own. Soon, I was building a darkroom and winding the tangled skeins of experience into useful technique. Later, while in high school, I was encouraged with awards and the opportunity to help teach photography and assist local portrait and commercial photographers. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the prestigious Center for Creative Studies, several years of professional photography in Detroit and New York City further polished my work.
Today, I follow my photographic pursuits and work as a website coder and advertising writer. Through all the years, I have been blessed with many mentors who have shared their interest in the arts.
